Jones Healthcare Group Launches Adherence in Practice Education Initiative
First course reviewed by the Canadian Pharmacists Association, available on the CPhA Learning Platform
Jones Healthcare Group has launched Adherence in Practice, a pharmacist-led education initiative designed to support pharmacy teams with practical, non-promotional guidance to improve medication adherence in everyday practice. The initiative focuses on real-world challenges pharmacists face and offers education and tools that can be applied directly within daily workflows.
The first course in the series, Improving Patient Communication to Support Medication Adherence, was developed by Jones Healthcare Group in collaboration with its Pharmacist Education Advisor and registered pharmacist Imane Iraqi. The course has been reviewed by the Canadian Pharmacists Association.
Practical education grounded in pharmacy practice
Medication non-adherence remains a persistent challenge across healthcare, limiting the effectiveness of even well-evidenced treatment regimens. Pharmacists are uniquely positioned to identify potential adherence issues and engage patients in meaningful conversations, yet these discussions can be difficult to initiate — particularly in busy or sensitive situations.
The inaugural Adherence in Practice course focuses on helping pharmacists recognize common barriers to adherence and apply structured, practical communication strategies that fit into everyday pharmacy practice. Delivered by Imane Iraqi, the session draws on her experience in both clinical pharmacy practice and health communication education.
“In today’s fast-moving world, where patients are exposed to endless information, pharmacists remain a trusted human point of reference for care and adherence,” says Iraqi. “At a time when supporting adherence remains a real challenge, this course focuses on intentional patient conversations, even when time is limited or when concerns aren’t always clearly expressed.”
Course content and learning objectives
The recorded course teaches pharmacists how to:
Identify common barriers to medication adherence in pharmacy settings
Recognize patient behaviours and scenarios that may signal potential non-adherence
Initiate and guide constructive adherence-related conversations
Apply practical tools — such as checklists and communication guides — in daily workflows
Adapt communication strategies to meet patients where they are, even in time-limited situations
Participants who complete the course receive a Statement of Completion from the CPhA.
Practical tools to support everyday use
To reinforce learning and support application in practice, the course is accompanied by three practical tools developed for use in pharmacy settings:
Patient questionnaire: Is Your Medication Routine Working for You?
Pharmacist checklist: When to Consider Medication Adherence Support
Pharmacist tool: Effective Communication Tips for Pharmacists
These resources are designed to support consistent, patient-centred conversations and can be integrated into everyday pharmacy workflows.
Looking ahead
Jones views Adherence in Practice as an evolving education initiative and welcomes feedback from pharmacists to help inform future topics and tools.

About Imane Iraqi, Pharmacist Education Advisor
Imane is a Swiss-trained pharmacist with a career rooted in both clinical excellence and patient-centred care. She began her practice in a leading pharmacy in Geneva, where every patient interaction was tailored with empathy and relevance. Alongside her pharmacy work, she taught health communication at the University of Geneva, reinforcing her belief that how pharmacists talk to patients is just as important as the treatments they provide.
Now practising and licensed in Canada, Imane brings this perspective to the shared challenges pharmacists face every day. She is passionate about helping pharmacists feel confident in supporting adherence—especially in sensitive or busy moments when conversations can be difficult to begin.
Her goal is to bridge innovative tools, best practices, and human connection so that what pharmacists say, and how they say it, truly supports adherence.
